Silk Ti Breakaway Race Proto

This is a Silk Ti Breakaway I made for Tom Ritchey to race in Europe. He wanted a bike he could carry on and not loose. It features Tom's integrated head tube, and his Breakaway technology, with the Castellano Silk Ti technology. Fun bike to build and a fun bike to ride! Brennan has his eye on this one, he is quite the bike collector!

Untouched Welds

I just had a customers friend ask if the welds were polished, or welded by a robot, I had to tell him the Robots name was RoPotts, just a guy that loves to build bikes up in the shop.

Finished Disc Tabs

This is what the tabs look like after being taken out of the plate, they still need some hand finishing and bending to fit the frame.

Titanium Plate Waterjet Process

This is what is left of a piece of titanium plate after the waterjet process has cut out the disc tabs, incredible technology! This type of machining allows you to get as many parts out of the plate as possible because you do not have to account for the thickness of a cutting tool, just a very small stream of high pressure water with a fine abrasive introduced into the stream of water.

A Wonderful Gift

It is a special gift for a father to see his children grow in healthy creative ways. It seems that my sons Daniel and Brennan( in photo) , want to build everything, just like someone else I know. As I get older, I realize how much I learned just watching my father in his shop building things, and he built everything! It really does seem to get absorbed by just hanging out with your Dad. I am thankful that my sons like hanging out with me, it seems like they are catching on to building their own ideas! What a pleasure to see!

Silk Ti's...

Some Silk Ti's in the final stage of manufacturing.

A Lot of Silk Ti's going on!

Along with my duties building Steve Potts Bikes, I also build all of John Castellano's frames for Castellano Designs. I build the Silk Ti, Bow Ti, and his new Zorro. I have been doing this for several years and really enjoy working with John. When ever John makes it to my shop to work on his bike projects with me , both his arms get twisted by my sons Daniel and Brennan to make dinner. Not only is John a great bike designer, he is also a great cook!

Type II Fork, another classic.

Still swamped with building the Classic Type II Fork. I'm certainly not complaining, but when you work alone it's hard to keep up with the details of the custom built fork and frame. Every fork in this photo is different, just as is every frame that I build is different. It sure does keep you on your toes!

More Classic Stems

Here is some more of the old classic stems for a restoration, man I used to build a lot of these, they sure are a lot of work!

The Old Stuff!

I seem to be getting a lot of request for making the older parts I used to make so much of. It's great to see people restoring those great old bikes! These are some stems for an old tandem.

Mount Tamalpais

It is only fitting that Mount Tam ended up as my headtube badge as it's beauty inspired my passion for cycling since I started exploring it's slopes and trails from about the age of 10 years old. I remember feeling like I just discovered the wild west, I was sure I was the only one who knew about this great place! These headtube badges were made intirely in my shop , thanks to the help of great friends and craftsmen, Dave , Uve and Joyce. We made the machinery and used brass that was too short for me to braze bikes together , melted it down and made headtube badges! Yes it was a bit more involved than just described, but really just wanted to say thanks to all those who inspired me and helped along the way!
